lovely Posada Santiago

 ****************************
Join us for an informative, heartwarming and
in-depth look at the weaving communities in Guatemala.

We start out with a short stay in lovely Antigua, visiting our friends Lidia and her family in their village home for a backstrap weaving demonstration.  It is here you'll have the opportunity to try backstrap weaving for yourself.

Then we'll we head further into the highlands, the heart of the Mayan world, exploring Quetzaltenango (Xela) and other nearby villages.  We'll visit cooperatives and learn about and visit ikat weavers and tyers in nearby Salcaja where that traditional style of weaving is still produced.  You really need to see it, and try it for yourself, to believe it. It's amazing !!

Next we'll press on to Totonicapan and Nahuala, possibly even Zunil, traveling through the beautiful Almolonga valley.

However, it is important to know that there is so much more to our tours than just what you will learn about weaving.

We truly provide an insider's glimpse into Mayan culture as people are living it today.  You'll experience a Mayan ceremony, and we'll build a spirit house while in Santiago Atitlan.

Because, of
course, we can't skip LAKE ATITLAN and will stay at our home away from home, the POSADASANTIAGO.  It is incredibly beautiful and there is always more to explore or new cooperative or project to visit.

"I loved my trip to Guatemala !! I particularly appreciated the focus on textile cooperatives and small busineses.  I loved going into the smaller villages and towns.  The food was good (especially that two avocado salad at Paulina's) the companions delightful and the entire experience both humbling and exhilarating. Thanks again Liza for a wonderful, wonderful experience!
Thinking of all of you."
