Join fiber artist and weaver KAREN SEARLE for an informative, heartwarming and in-depth look at the weaving communities in Guatemala. You'll begin each day with a short lecture by Karen on various aspects of traditional Mayan weaving, its history and status today. Then, after a short stay in lovely and familiar ANTIGUA, we head further into the highlands, the heart of the Mayan world, where we base out of Quetzaltenango (Xela). You'll learn about and visit ikat weavers and tyers in nearby Salcaja. You'll journey to Totonicapan and Nahuala, Momostenango, possibly even Zunil, traveling through the beautiful Almolonga valley. Then, of course since it is finally 2012, we'll learn about the Mayan calendar's long count end date - winter solstice 2012 - and its implications. *** Join us for a once in a lifetime experience learning about Guatemala's gorgeous textiles, and the lives of the women who make them.
*** This learning experience is appropriate for all appreciators of fine fabrics - as well as those who make them. *** Hold your space now with a $500 deposit and the registration form on our web page.
